This northern society is influenced by the legacy of colonialism, which suffers from widespread drug addiction, alcohol abuse, domestic violence and one of the largest adolescent murders in the world. Students are understandably skeptical when another unknowing and unprepared white rookie teacher, Russ Sheppard, arrives for lunch on a one-year study contract. There is a lot to learn, but Russ, deeply shaken by the death of a student, introduces lacrosse sports to his class with the aim of removing a dangerous fog of trauma from his students. When the students were initially resilient, the students will gradually engage in sports, form a Grizzlies team, and find inspiration to make changes in their lives.
