His mid-twentieth-century collaborations with composer John Cage (his life partner) and visual artist Robert Rauschenberg formed the core of an era of transformation. Filmmaker Alla Kovgan brings together Cunningham’s latest generation of dancers (directed by Merce Cunningham Dance Company, assistant director of choreography Jennifer Goggans) to present iconic works from Cunningham’s repertoire.
